SOMETHING FUNNY!
VOLUME FIVE
Current Wisdom
The average medical man is an educated gentleman, a delightful
companion, a man of parts, and many such are our best friends.
But doctors, when associated in corporate matters, are oftentimes
too self-seeking. With an eye out for their profession, they
are inclined to be aggressive, and naturally, under such conditions
are not a gracious, peaceful, easily cooperative body of men.
This professional enthusiasm is apt to obscure an all-around
view of hospital government. --George H.M. Rowe, M.D.,
Association of Hospital Superintendents, 1902.
True story.
The new CEO recently came to health care from another
industry. Missing a key surgeon at a meeting, the CEO asked
the Medical Staff Coordinator if the surgeon would be coming.
"He'll be here," said the coordinator, "but
he just called and said he'll be late. He's closing."
"Is that right?" beamed the new CEO. "I didn't
even know he sold his house."
